Ramble #85
Welcome to the latest edition of Ramble, a compilation of what I have been pondering, learning and enjoying for the past couple of months or so.
Now, grab a beverage and let’s begin.
Something Interesting:
Somewhere along the way in Bolivia, we ended up watching some 'Cholitas Wrestling'. Basically, insane Bolivian women going full WWE:
Which of course brought back memories of:
What I am Reading:
Just a good primer - one of the richest countries on earth with abundant natural resources throws it all away with isolationist behaviour, wonderful corruption and printing money to fund their deficit; gets up to the early 2000's when they were having their next currency crisis.
An interesting time to read it given that the Peso is currently at 130-150% year on year inflation...
A cracking read by a fellow who wrote as if he didn't care if you read him or not. Just the perfect attitude to write interesting things.
And the perfect author to take on the bizarre, wild place that is Patagonia.
Remember that if you decline in performan ce, quit or die, no one at your workplace will care (or even notice) and you will be replaced within the week...
Value things accordingly.
"Flamini, to no one’s surprise by that point, was unflappable, explaining that she had left her bodily waste at the collection point “every five poos”. A round of applause rang out.
“There was no other way and five was my limit,” she said. “You have to get the waste out. I left my offerings there, as if to the gods, and the gods left me food.”
She was equally phlegmatic about the long-delayed wash: “I still haven’t showered. But then, I’m an extreme sportswoman. I could go another 500 days.”"
Good.
Yessssss, let us all become the ungovernable.
Don't make money printer go BRRRRRR. Don't be Socialist. Allow foreign investment.
That's. About. It.
We need more inclusive political and economic institutions. Democracy is the best of all the bad experiments so far... etc
This guy writes in such an entertaining and easily readable style.
What I am Watching:
- John Wick 4
Saw this one in Asuncion.
Also John Wick 5 is in early production...
- Beverly Hills Cop
Classic Eddie.
- Murder Mystery 2
Anything Adam Sandler does is funny. It's like a law of nature...
- Spirited Away
Then somewhere around Bolivia, I got the urge for some anime.
And this is the traditional starting point - it's great.
- Howl's Moving Castle
And this one is weirder.
Listen to who does the voices...
- The Consultant
I think they tried to just bank on Kristof Waltz being amazing, which he is, but the story was lacking.
What I am Listening to:
- Seeed
A recommendation from a couple of boys from Berlin.
German reggae...
What I am Thinking:
How is this problem fixed?
- Glimpses of Life in a Remote Aboriginal Community - Paul Prociv - Quadrant Online
Travel - Expedition Denouement:
I made a Travel Page to start compiling travel writings to make it easier to keep up to date with:
- Denouement Diaries for Weekly Updates - We are in to Week 16 currently.
- Denouement Dashboard for Country Summaries - Check out Ecuador.
- Social stuff over Here, Here and Here.
- And the growing document of 'How to Quit Your Job and Escape for a Year (and Why You Should…)'
Thank you once again for reading along with me.
If you found something you liked, let me know.
If you think I can do something a little smoother, please let me know.
Talk soon.
Luke.
