Denouement Dashboard - Singapore

Denouement Dashboard - Singapore

This is the place I will cover the stats of each country as we go.

As usual, follow along at:

Anyway, let's get into it:

Singapore: 20-24/11/23

Tracks:

Rough rules: I will count the flight (or bus) TO that country as tracks IN that country.

Planes:

  • Milan - Zurich - Singapore = 10,514 km

Automobiles:

  • About 10 km worth of Grabs

Walking:

  • 39.9 km

Total = 10,563.9 km

Expenses:

Rough rules: I will count the flight (or bus) TO that country as an expense IN that country.

Total expense: $3,745.53 AUD

Total Days: 5 Days inclusive

Expense per day = $749.10 AUD/Day

Expenses Breakdown (mathematical, not emotional):

Naturally, Singapore’s coatings will be somewhat deformed by a significant international flight. But it’s not like it’s a cheap place. Singapore prices do tend to be fairly high.

Travel Bingo:

Singapore is much more reserved.

An explanation of Travel Bingo is here.

Relevant Media:

  • I‘ve got to get around to reading some of the books about or by Lee Kuan Yew, just an amazing guy who, at times brutally, dragged Singapore into modernity as a highly functioning, wealthy city state.

This was one of the best parts of Singapore. There is an old style rotunda, smack in the middle of the business district. Food from all around the world sold from kiosks. Then at a designated time, the street outside is shut by a team of staff pulling barriers across, then tables and chairs are set up and satay sticks cooked over coals are sold by the handful. It’s great.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Public transport in Singapore works. Full stop. It is so easy. Any bank card you have is fair game to tap onto a bus or the excellent train service. Very easy to navigate.

Recommendations:

  • Go to Marina Bay Sands. Go to the sky deck. It’s great.
  • Go and see the Gardens by the Bay. Very impressive. And the exhibits in the enormous climate controlled glass domes are incredible.
  • Take the train out to the Botanic Gardens. Walk around. See the Orchid Garden.
  • I went and had a look at Raffles. Is nice. I’m not a drinker but that’s where you go to get the Singapore Sling cocktail.
  • The foyer of the Fullerton Hotel is very nice. Had an extremely expensive coffee there.
  • Satay Street could actually be the highlight. It is so much fun and the food is excellent.

Summary:

  • I thought Singapore was fantastic.
  • It’s not cheap.
  • Singapore is very walkable. Because the ‘walkable’ places are lovely and the public transport to the next place is incredibly simple and functional.
  • And it was, honestly, refreshing after being a little bit disappointed in how southern Europe is going. It turns out, for example, that you can literally control immigration rates to the advantage of your own citizens. Full stop. And it turns out that you can, in fact, just switch off crime overnight - if only you have the gumption to set the requisite policies. And it turns out that you can, in fact, just force in to existence new industry to bring profit to your lands by simple incentives and sheer work - looking at you, Australia… (cough homes and holes….homes and holes… cough)

Thanks for reading along.

The next country update will come... after the next country.

Which, for now, will be the last country - Australia.
