Ramble #90

Welcome to the latest edition of Ramble, a compilation of what I have been pondering, learning and enjoying for the past few weeks.

Now, grab a beverage and let’s begin.

Something Interesting:

A Portrait of Tenochtitlan - a 3D reconstruction of the capital of the Aztec Empire by Thomas Kole.

A fantastic document comparing the ancient and modern Mexico Cities. These very clever sliding comparisons are fascinating.

(It’s just a screenshot, my version won‘t slide…)

What I am Reading:

  • Watching Good Omens 2, the sign on Aziraphale’s bookshop is fantastic:

“I open the shop on most weekdays about 9:30 or perhaps 10am. While occasionally I open the shop as early as 8, I have been known not to open until 1, except on Tuesday. I tend to close about 3:30pm, or earlier if something needs tending to. However, I might occasionally keep the shop open until 8 or 9 at night, you never know when you might need some light reading. On days that I am not in, the shop will remain closed. On weekends, will open the shop during normal hours unless I am elsewhere. Bank holidays will be treated in the usual fashion, with early closing on Wednesdays, or sometimes Fridays. (For Sundays see Tuesdays).

A.Z. Fell. Bookseller”

The title says most of it.

The Spanish Women’s World Cup kiss thing…

Pre-voice stuff

What I am Watching:

Look, I was doing some locum work in Dubbo for three weeks so I got through quite a lot:

Gritty. Simple. Good story.

Even more simple. Aliens. Alone. That’s it.

And effectively zero speaking lines in the entire movie. Everything is through tone and the actor. A really enjoyable one.

Saw this one at Dubbo cinemas…

Agatha Christie. Poirot. Whodunnit.

I just can’t go past these movies.

Also in Dubbo cinemas…

Again, I just love the JohnWick/Nobody/Punisher/Equaliser genre.

Denzel is the man.

Also I just realised that Dakota Fanning is the supporting act teaming up with Denzel again like in ‘Man on Fire’. So good.

Dubbo was running out of movies to see.

A hamburger of a film. Owen Wilson is just doing side quests at this point. Look, it’s a kids Halloween movie…

Dubbo was really out of movies by the time I got to this one.

It’s trash. I think it’s a DC film. But just rubbish. And weirdly patronising - for example, the lead is a Mexican-American, and the film portrays his Mexican immigrant family as bumbling, obnoxious, borderline intellectually impaired. Weird.

Spy shows. Put them in my vein.

Not as good as ‘Homeland’. But up there.

What I am Listening to:

americana, bu lofi

Metal Covers

Cool Thing in Medicine:

A bunch of Caboolture Doctors will have trained under or come across Graham Zerk. He is the best.

Sam sent me the link to this old documentary from Papua New Guinea that features plenty of Zerky.

Travel - Expedition Denouement:

I made a Travel Page to start compiling travel writings to make it easier to keep up to date with:

Closing Thoughts:

Thank you once again for reading along with me.

If you found something you liked, let me know.

If you think I can do something a little smoother, please let me know.
